Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about working with Kelpie Web Services.
1. How much does a website cost?
Website costs vary based on complexity, features, and requirements. We don't believe in one-size-fits-all pricing because every project is different.
Government agency websites typically range from $25,000-$40,000 depending on the number of pages, required integrations, and compliance needs. Medium business websites can range from $15,000-$35,000.
We provide custom quotes after our discovery call when we understand your specific requirements. No hidden fees, no surprise invoices. You'll know exactly what you're paying before we start.
2. How long does it take to build a website?
We deliver production-ready websites in 8-10 weeks from discovery to launch. This includes:
- • Discovery and planning (1 week)
- • Design and content development (2-3 weeks)
- • Website build and development (3-4 weeks)
- • Review, testing, and launch (1 week)
- • 2 weeks of post-launch support
Most agencies quote 6-12 months. We believe in efficiency without cutting corners. Our timeline is realistic and respects your schedule.
3. Will my website meet WCAG 2.2 and Digital Experience Policy standards?
Yes. Every website we build meets:
- • WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliance (required as of January 2025)
- • Digital Inclusion Standard (accessible for all users)
- • Digital Access Standard (consolidated, easy navigation)
- • Digital Performance Standard (monitored, maintained, high-quality)
We also build to ISM and PSPF security frameworks for government clients. Compliance isn't a checkbox for us. It's built into every stage of the design and development process.
4. Can I update my website myself?
Yes. We build websites on platforms with content management systems (CMS) so you can make updates when you need to.
You'll receive:
- • Recorded training videos
- • Comprehensive PDF handbook with step-by-step instructions
- • Clear guidance on what you can update safely
- • Direct access to us for questions
Simple updates like text changes, image swaps, and new blog posts are easy to manage yourself. For larger changes or technical updates, we're here to help.
5. What's included in your website package?

6. Do you work with clients outside Adelaide/South Australia?
We're based in Adelaide and primarily serve South Australian government contracts and businesses, including regional and rural areas.
For now, we're keeping our focus local to provide the best possible service. If you're outside SA and think we'd be a great fit, get in touch and let's talk.
7. What happens after my website launches?
After launch, you receive:
- • 2 weeks of unlimited post-launch support for any issues or small fixes
- • Comprehensive documentation and training materials
- • Direct line to us for questions
After the 2-week support period, ongoing maintenance and updates are available on an hourly basis ($150-200/hour) or through monthly retainer packages.
We don't disappear after launch. We're your long-term digital working partner.
8. Do you provide hosting?
Yes. We handle hosting setup as part of our website package unless you specifically need or want to manage it yourself.
We'll recommend secure, reliable hosting appropriate for your site and ensure everything is configured correctly. For government clients, we can work with GovCMS or other approved hosting platforms.
9. What if I need changes during the project?
If you need to add pages, features, or functionality that weren't in the original scope, we'll pause, reassess, and provide a new quote before continuing.
No scope creep, no surprise invoices. You'll always know what changes cost and how they impact the timeline before we proceed.
Small revisions within the original scope are included. We build in feedback rounds during the design phase to make sure we're on the right track.
10. Can you help with an existing website or only new builds?
We do both. We offer:
- • New website builds from scratch
- • Accessibility audits and compliance upgrades for existing sites
- • Website redesigns and overhauls
- • Ongoing support and maintenance for sites we didn't build
If you already have a website that needs to meet the January 2025 compliance deadline, we can audit it, identify issues, and implement the necessary fixes.
11. Will my website be mobile-friendly?
Absolutely. Every website we build is fully responsive and optimised for smartphones, tablets, and desktops.
Google uses mobile-first indexing, which means your mobile site is what Google uses to rank you in search results. Mobile responsiveness isn't optional. It's essential.
We test across multiple devices and browsers to ensure your site works beautifully everywhere.
12. How do we communicate during the project?
You'll have direct access to your project team through email and scheduled calls. No account managers, no ticket queues.
We have weekly check-ins during the project to keep you updated on progress and address any questions. You'll always know where things stand.
Our response time is within one business day for all communication.
13. What do you need from me to get started?
After our discovery call, we'll need:
- • Access to any existing branding materials (logo, colours, fonts)
- • Content (text, images) or let us know if you need us to create it
- • Access to any existing website or systems
- • Key stakeholders identified for approvals
We'll provide a detailed checklist so nothing gets missed. The more prepared you are upfront, the smoother and faster the process.
14. Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We understand that $25-40K is a significant investment. We can structure payment in milestones:
- • Deposit on project start
- • Payment after design approval
- • Payment after development completion
- • Final payment on launch
We're happy to discuss payment structures that work for your budget and procurement processes.
15. What platform/CMS do you use?
We choose the best platform for your specific needs. Options include:
- • WordPress (most common, highly customisable, SEO-friendly)
- • Shopify (if eCommerce is required)
- • Custom builds (for specialised requirements)
- • GovCMS (for government clients who require it)
We'll recommend the platform that best fits your goals, technical requirements, and budget. You'll understand why we're recommending it and how it benefits your business.
