About Kelpie Web Services
From Penfolds to pixels
Our founder started as a cellar hand and winemaker at Penfolds, crafting wine with precision and care. These days, we craft websites with the same attention to detail, but the mission is different: making the digital world accessible and straightforward for everyone who needs it.
We've built websites for both small businesses and large companies, and we've learned that the best websites aren't just technically sound. They're built with real people in mind.
Why accessibility matters
We've worked with and around disability for decades, and we've seen firsthand how easy it is for organisations to forget entire groups of people when designing digital experiences. Accessibility isn't a checkbox to us. It's about respect, inclusion, and making sure everyone has a positive time navigating the web.
That's why every website we build meets WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards (and WCAG level AAA when required). Not just because it's legally required (though it is now, as of January 2025), but because it's the right thing to do.
Meet Muffin
Kelpie Web Services is named after Muffin, our founder's 18-month-old working line Kelpie from New South Wales. She's fiercely intelligent, always ready for work, and aims to please. She loves deeply, works tirelessly, and is always respectful.
Muffin's the perfect mascot for our business because she embodies the traits we bring to every project: intelligence, attentiveness, loyalty, and drive. She's a working dog, and we're a working partnership.
Why we started this
We started Kelpie Web Services because we believe accessible websites shouldn't be an afterthought. They should be the foundation.
Many South Australians are locked out of essential government services simply because websites aren't built with accessibility in mind. People using screen readers, people with low vision, people with cognitive disabilities. We all deserve the same seamless digital experience.
We saw an opportunity to build websites that genuinely work for everyone and to deliver them in weeks, not months. To make WCAG compliance the foundation, not an afterthought.
This is about more than code and design. It's about ensuring every South Australian can access the digital services they need. That's the difference I'm here to make.
My values
Accessibility
Every website we build is WCAG 2.2 Level AA compliant. We maintain a checklist of disabilities and accessibility considerations to make sure we're designing for everyone, not just the majority.
Transparency
You'll always know where your project stands, what you're paying for, and when you'll launch. No surprises, no hidden fees, no corporate runarounds.
Reliability
We deliver on time and on budget. If something changes, you'll know immediately. We respect your time and your schedule.
Looking ahead
In the future, we'd love to build a team that reflects the inclusive values we design for. Teaching web development to people with disabilities and creating meaningful employment opportunities is the ultimate goal. But first things first: let's build some great websites.
